PORTRAITURE UNIT
RATIONALE:
Many students are intimidated by the notion of drawing a realistic portrait. Breaking down the process into manageable steps, and allowing students plenty of time to develop their skills gradually gives them confidence to proceed. Having developed some mastery at all the basic skills required, students enter the task more confidently and are often impressed by the results when they put all that they have learning into a portrait. Being able to choose who to draw as well as adding personal touches to the background triggers students' intrinsic motivation and makes their portrait truly unique to them.
